“A decanter is a vessel that is used to hold the decantation of a liquid (such as wine) which may contain sediment. Decanters are normally used as serving vessels for wine” (source: Wikipedia). Wines need decanting before serving. Older wines benefit from decanting by separating the sediments, while new wines need to be decanted to increase aeration and open up aromas and flavors.
The Riedel Eve Decanter was designed by Maximilian Riedel (Austrian master glass makers specialized in wine decanters) back in 2008 as a tribute to Eva Riedel, the family’s matriarch. The decanter is made of clear 24% lead crystal, is 20 inches tall (~50 cm), holds 48-1/4 ounces of wine (1,425 liters) and features an elegant raised cobra design. The package includes a DVD featuring brief demonstration on successful pouring.
