Noke Bluetooth Padlock
Just as the iFingerLock biometric padlock we featured earlier, the Fuz Design Noke Padlock is designed to overcome classic padlock problems such as losing the keys or forgetting the opening combinations.
The Noke padlock connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and, via free iPhone and Android apps allows easy setup and operation. You can setup multiple smartphones to open a Noke, you can share access with other users, you can check usage history and easily unlock the padlock without even pulling the phone from your pocket.
The Noke padlock has a built-in battery which lasts up to a year of usage and, if you run out of battery or if you don’t have your phone with you, it can be operated by simply tapping the hinge (just as classic Morse code) and entering a quick click code previously set up.

The Noke Padlock is in project mode at Kickstarter and you reserve one for $59 (that’s about $30 less than what it would retail for). The project already reached it’s funding cap 9meaning that the Noke will be produced and released to the market) and the delivery is scheduled for February 2015.

Cool Moto X Interactive Magazine Print Ad That Is Actually ... Interactive!!!
Print ads are somehow boring to create … and even to read. While advertising in magazines and newspapers still brings new business and customers to companies, technical ads possibilities are very limited. Advertisers are blocked using images. No video, no sound, no GIF’s, no moving parts, just simple plain imaging, which limits the impact of ads and makes the advertising agency work harder to be creative and acquire reader’s attention.

Well … this is what I thought until now! Other than the classic “scratch-here-to-smell-this-perfume” there was literally no interactivity in offline magazine ads. But things start to change and advanced technology gets into offline advertising as well. Should we call it Offline Advertising 2.0?

Check out this cool Moto X print ad made by the advertising agency Digitas which allows readers to change the colors of the smartphone by touching various tone choices bellow the image. The ad appeared in 150,000 copies of the Wired January 2014 issue and made use of a slim transparent plexiglass slab, some LED lights, four small embedded batteries and some buttons disguised as color choices.

Let’s hear your thoughts about it in the comments. Also, what’s your take on the future of offline advertising? Will the magazine ads look the same as today in 10 years?

Energizer XP18000 Universal Power Bank
We featured many power banks here at CoolPile.com, but, for some reason, we always focused on external batteries designed to charge small gadgets such as smartphones, digital cameras, tablets, basically everything powered and charged by USB cables! Check out some them here: the JunoJumpr, the PoweriSite, the PowerPak Ultra, the TsirTech smartphone wrist band charger, the PowerFlask and so on …

Now it’s time we get more serious into this power banks situation! A while back I was looking for an extended battery for my laptop and soon I realized that it makes no sense to put money into an battery which will serve only one gadget – my laptop. So I decided to go for an battery powerful enough to charge my laptop, versatile enough to allow multiple gadgets charging and lightweight enough to comfortably carry it in my daily backpack!

While I am still researching the subject and I did not settle for a model yet, the Energizer XP18000 seems to be a serious contender! The device is truly universal, can charge just about anything that gets power juice via USB and can add up to 5 hours of usage to a regular laptop or up to 8 hours of use to smaller netbooks.

The Energizer XP18000 can recharge up to 3 devices at the same time, comes with 3 power cables, 6 cell phone tips, 3 media tips, 9 laptop tips, an AC adapter and a carrying bag. The XP18000 is also part of the Free Tips For Life Energizer program which allows users to get 2 free charging tips every year, for the life time of their registered power bank! So no worry if you buy a new gadget!

Navdy Or How To Safely Interact With Your Smartphone While Driving & Still Keeping Your Eyes On The Road
Smartphones and cars don’t really go hand in hand! There are too many temptations to take your eyes from the road and check your phone for incoming text massages, navigation directions, emails, social media notifications and messages, dial calls and so on … And taking your eyes from the road causes accidents!

Navdy is a nifty car gadget that promises to solve this issue and allow you to interact with your smartphone while keeping your eyes on the road. How do they do it? You simply put Navdy on your car’s dashboard, it connects via Bluetooth to your iPhone or Android smartphone and, via a HUD (heads-up display), it projects information from your phone and displays it … on the road in front of your vehicle! Well, it doesn’t really project the info on the road, but on the device’s 5.1in transparent screen, which makes it look like it’s projected on the road in front of you.

ALSO CHECK the Garmin Windshield HUD (Head-Up Display) and the Skully P1 HUD Motorcycle Helmet we wrote about earlier.

Other than displaying navigation directions, Navdy can be controlled via air-gestures and voice commands to allow you to send messages and emails, answer and dial calls, control music playback and, if connected to the car’s computer via the OBDII interface, can allow you to monitor car performance and diagnostics by displaying the info on its HUD.

Navdy is presently on a private crowdfunding campaign and you can pre-order one for $299. Delivery is scheduled for early 2015.

SlimClip, The Minimalist iPhone Case With Enhanced Clip-On Capabilities
Smartphones are more and more in our lives and every day we depend more and more of them. Just think about it! Just a few short years back you needed a backpack full of gadgets to accomplish what you do today with a simple smartphone. GPS navigation, MP3 player, books, digital camera and the list goes on and on …

But there’s a small problem with this! As smartphones become capable of helping us with more and more tasks, they also grow in size! They need more powerful batteries, bigger screens, bigger storage space, more physical space inside them to carry more chips and technologies … And this makes them less and less portable …

For many, carrying their phone around while working, exercising or traveling has become a real hassle. For them, and not only, the Wonderful Things Factory brought the SlimClip to the market. The SlimClip is a minimalist iPhone case which also doubles as a belt clip allowing users to carry their phones clipped to their belt, pocket or paints waist.

The SlimClip is made of strong protective ABS plastic, has a minimalist design (it only ads 2.5mm of thickness to your iPhone), is compatible with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, comes in a range of vibrant colors to match your favorite outfit, gives natural access to all native iPhone buttons and ports and, due to it’s ingenious design, can be securely clipped to clothing, bags, backpacks, laptop cases and even in your car.
I used the SlimClip for the past couple of days and it’s a great product. A bit of work to slide the iPhone in the case, but that’s a small price to pay for a solid grip and piece of mind that your favorite smartphone is well secured and safe while you roam around!
Check out the demo on the manufacturer’s site …
