The BioLite Campstove is a cool multifunctional device designed to help campers cook a quick meal and … charge their iPhone or Androidsmartphones!
The devices works on renewable biomass (twigs, pinecones, wood pellets, you know, the regular stuff you find on the ground in the woods!!!) and has an output of 2W @5V (max continuous), up to 4W @5V on it’s peak. In plain English an output power of 2W @ 5V means close to the same power as a PC USB plug (a 20 minutes charge will allow an iPhone up to 45-60 minutes of talk time). It’s not the fastest charge in the world, but still, I’d be glad to have it with me when outdooring for a couple of days, away of regular electric power sources.
Designed for serious users who need power while out-there in the wilderness, the Goal Zero Yeti 150 Solar Generator is a gas-free source of portable power to keep lights, phones and laptops powered on through any situation.
The Yeti 150 has a capacity of 14,000mAh at 150 Wh. That translates in plain English as follows – up to two full laptop recharges or 6 tablet charges or 12 DSLR power runs or 15 smartphone full recharges or 25 GoPro full power cycles! The unit weights 12 lbs (5.4 kg), measures 7.75 x 5.75 x 6.75 in (that’s 19.7 x 14.6 x 17.2 cm) and can be recharged by using a wall charger (it takes around 6 hours for a full charge), a 12V car charger (around 8 hours of charging time) or with compatible solar panels (charging time varies based on the output power of the solar panel).
On the output side, the Goal Zero Yeti 150 Solar Generator sports an 110V AC port (for regular electrical plugs, just as at home), 2x 5V USB ports which output up to 2.1 A (perfect for charging your iPhone, iPad or any other Android,Windows Mobile gadget or anything else that can be powered via USB), a 12V car charging port (so you can power all car gadgets like GPS units) and a 8mm 12V charging port. Just perfect to power you next wilderness comping trip!
With the iPhone 6 Plus is already on the market since a couple of weeks ago, it’s time we start looking for some cool accessories to help you protect and make your bellowed iPhone even better! So, for first, we’ll do what every sane geek would do – get some basic protection as well as find a way to improve the iPhone battery life and make sure you finish the day on one power charge!
And our first contender is … the iPhone 6 Plus Power Jacket! Designed to offer basic protection against bumps and scratches, the Power Jacket also includes a 4,200mAh extended battery which will add your iPhone enough power juice to get you through a busy day. If you’re not sure what 4,200mAh means – let me simply tell you that the iPhone 6 Plus battery has 2,915mAh, so the Power Jacket will extend it’s power life with an extra 144% over the original capacity.
While all this extra power juice is great, the Power Jacket comes with a bit of extra bulk and ads 117 grams to the iPhone 6 Plus (the original iPhone weight is 172 grams) and about 17mm in thickness. Not much to worry if you think about all the extra power it brings. The Power Jacket for iPhone 6 Plus comes in two colors (white or black and) and is also available in a 8,200mAh format.
With smartphones getting bigger and bigger and more power-hungry everyday, having an extended battery on you, or at least a charging cable became a must! But how to do this without adding another gadget to you already crowded pockets?
Here’s a cool solution – the Bracelet Charging Cable – a wearable leather bracelet which conceals a Lightning (or Micro USB) charging cable. The Bracelet Charging Cable comes in two versions – braided and casual and is available in two colors – Red Rum and Black (Blue, Red and Gray will be available soon).
The Chivote iPhone and Android Bracelet Charging Cable is in project mode at Kickstarter and you can get it for an early bird price of $27 US, with delivery in December 2014.
If you’re anything like me (or the other 1.75 billion smartphone users on Earth) you must know how annoying it is to look at your phone’s screen at noon and see your battery only has 30% left for the rest of the day!
This is a constant problem of smartphones and I really hope manufacturers will be able to squeeze-in 5x-10x batteries in the near future! But, until then, although I tried many improving battery gadgets like iPhone Power Pack Cases, magnetic back covers and even the TsirTech battery wristband, finishing my day with battery juice left seems to be a rare miracle! (P.S. I even tried some of Gargamel’s highly rated black magic … still no luck!!!).
But, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel! At least for the ladies in our lives! Enter the EverPurse!
The EverPurse can be used as a standalone purse or as a purse insert and contains a built-in battery and charging dock for smartphones. Once you finish using your phone, simply slide it into the EverPurse and it starts charging right-away!
While on the outside it looks like real magic, here’s how things work on the inside: EverPurse features a special pocket with a smartphone charging dock. When you insert your phone in this special pocket, the bag guides it to perfectly connect with the dock and starts charging your phone. The EverPurse has an internal battery which can give 2 extra charges to your iPhone and can be charged by USB cable or wirelessly, using the included wireless charging pad that comes with the bag.
The EverPurse is made of natural leather, comes in a range of colors and models, can be used with iPhone 5/5s/5c or Samsung Galaxy S5. Available for pre-order with delivery in December 2014.
Now it’s time we get more serious into this power banks situation! A while back I was looking for an extended battery for my laptop and soon I realized that it makes no sense to put money into an battery which will serve only one gadget – my laptop. So I decided to go for an battery powerful enough to charge my laptop, versatile enough to allow multiple gadgets charging and lightweight enough to comfortably carry it in my daily backpack!
While I am still researching the subject and I did not settle for a model yet, the Energizer XP18000 seems to be a serious contender! The device is truly universal, can charge just about anything that gets power juice via USB and can add up to 5 hours of usage to a regular laptop or up to 8 hours of use to smaller netbooks.
The Energizer XP18000 can recharge up to 3 devices at the same time, comes with 3 power cables, 6 cell phone tips, 3 media tips, 9 laptop tips, an AC adapter and a carrying bag. The XP18000 is also part of the Free Tips For LifeEnergizer program which allows users to get 2 free charging tips every year, for the life time of their registered power bank! So no worry if you buy a new gadget!
