DeLorme InReach GPS Exporer With Two-Way Satellite Communicator
Sometimes, when you’re outdooring far away from civilization, most modern technology hardware becomes as useless as a river stone! Just imagine how your iPhone or iPad would help you out-there in the middle of a mountain with no internet connection or power outlet to charge twice a day! Of course, you can still use it to listen some music, read a book and an article saved via Instapaper or even to get some GPS coordinates, but that’s pretty much it!

Here’s where the dedicated hardware like the DeLorme InReach Explorer series come into the game! The Two-Way DeLorme InReach Satellite Communicator (model ID AG-008727-201) is a complete gadget designed to make your life in wilderness easier. The device comes with various sensors (digital compass, barometric altimeter and accelerometer) on-board which allow you to track trip statistics as well as get useful info about the voyage, color screen GPS navigation with route creation, waypoint and tracks history, is waterproof/dustproof (IP67; standard submersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and impact-resistant (Mil-STD-810G for shock) and sports an internal rechargeable battery which allows up to 100 hours of usage in normal conditions.

The Delorme InReach AG-008727-201 can be used to send and receive emails and SMS via the built-in satellite communication chip or can be paired via Bluetooth to iPhone, iPad and most Android devices out-there. A contract-free (minimum 30-day commitment) or annual satellite subscription plan is required for use (plans starting at $11.95 US per month).

Panasonic CM1 - The Digital Camera With Phone Functionality
While most mobile phone manufacturers out there battle to attach more and more powerfull cameras to their smartphones, Panasonic takes a different approach to the problem and decides to attach a powerful Android smartphone to a panasonic digital camera.

The result? The Panasonic CM1 smartphone with 1-n sensor and Leica lens.

Announced at Photokina 2014, Panasonic’s CM1 features 20MP resolution, f/2.8 Leica lens, a mechanical shutter, manual control ring and an external lens which, surprisingly, is not there for zooming purposes, but helps better focusing the image. The camera phone weights 7.19oz or 204 grams (that’s only 2.1oz or 60 grams more than the Samsung Galaxy S5) .

On the smartphone side, Panasonic equipped the CM1 with a 4.7in Full HD screen, 2GB of Ram, 16GB on-board storage, 2.3 Ghz quad-core Snapdrgon processor, a microSD card slot allowing expansion with up to 128GB more and a 2,600mAh battery.

The Panasonic CM1 will go on sale this November in Europe (France and Germany) for around 900 Eur (that’s about $1,165 US) with overseas release scheduled for some time after.
