Following the smartwatch bandwagon, Breitling just unveiled their latest model which – the Breitling B55 Connected Chronograph.
Officially designed for the aviator and aspiring aviator market, the B55 Connected takes a different approach than most wristwatches out there – rather then transforming the watch into an addon for a smartphone, Breitling turns tables and uses the smartphone as an addon for the watch!
On the chronograph side, the B55 Connected is based on Breitling’s previous Caliber B50 and is based on thermocompensated “superquartz” movement – a Breitling in-house technology which supercharges previous quartz calibers by compensating for temperature changes and 10 times more accurate than standard quartz mechanisms. The B55 also features two large LED displays, WiFi inter-connectivity, electronic tachometer and an USB rechargeable battery to power them.
On the inter-connectivity side, the Breitling B55 Connected uses your smartphone more as a display unit than as a processing unit. Data from the phone such as flight times, departure and arrival times, etc … is uploaded to the app for storage and easy analyzing and some settings (time-setting, timezones, alarms, display and operating parameters, night mode) can be easier adjusted from the smartphone app and transferred to the watch. Watch the video to see it in action…
Breitling did not quote yet any price for the B55 Connected, but all missing details will be unveiled at the Baselworld 2015 show.
With smartphone manufacturers focusing aggressively on increasing phone screen sizes and resolutions as well as pushing more and more new features that require our phones to always stay connected to the internet, no wonder no one I know is able to finish a full day on a single battery charge!
So what’s the solution? Well, some of us have a second charger at work, some carry a wall charger in our bags, some carry a power bank while other always have an USB cable on them and use any free USB plug they find around! Of course, you can get an a wall charger plug case or an extended battery iPhone case, but those aren’t the slickest and most beautiful cases in the world, aren’t they?
Here’s a cool alternative solution for this problem: the Quickie Pocket Charger. Designed in two versions (for iPhone and Android), Quickie is a 1050mAh power bank which fits in your jeans coin pocket and can to charge your iPhone or Android device at a rate of 2A. Basically, you’re getting about a half charge on an iPhone 6 or a third of a charge on any of the larger Android devices (Samsung Galaxy series, LG G series, HTC One, etc ..) in less than 30 minutes. While getting an extra half charge might not seem much, it might be just enough to finish your day, and, giving the Quickie’s compact and portable format, I am sure it will come in handy when you’re out of juice and need to get some quick directions, place a call or check what your friends are doing on social media!
Quickie is in crowdfunding mode at Indiegogo and you can secure the iPhone or Android versions for an early bird price of $19 US.
