Noke Bluetooth Padlock
Just as the iFingerLock biometric padlock we featured earlier, the Fuz Design Noke Padlock is designed to overcome classic padlock problems such as losing the keys or forgetting the opening combinations.
The Noke padlock connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and, via free iPhone and Android apps allows easy setup and operation. You can setup multiple smartphones to open a Noke, you can share access with other users, you can check usage history and easily unlock the padlock without even pulling the phone from your pocket.
The Noke padlock has a built-in battery which lasts up to a year of usage and, if you run out of battery or if you don’t have your phone with you, it can be operated by simply tapping the hinge (just as classic Morse code) and entering a quick click code previously set up.

The Noke Padlock is in project mode at Kickstarter and you reserve one for $59 (that’s about $30 less than what it would retail for). The project already reached it’s funding cap 9meaning that the Noke will be produced and released to the market) and the delivery is scheduled for February 2015.

Papago GS260-US Rear View Mirror Full HD Dashcam - Product Review on CoolPile.com
The Papago GS260-US or GoSafe 260 as it’s also know is a cool dashcam that attaches to your car’s interior mirror and allows you to record your car trips without crowding your windshield.

Why do you need a dashcam in your car? Well … for first … it’s cool! Remember those crazy driving Russian videos all over Youtube? They’re all recorded with car mounted dashcams, just like this one! Second … many insurance companies accept dashcam footage to identify fault in car accidents. Third … high quality dashcams come with G-Sensors and motion detection which can activate the recording feature even if your car is sitting in a parking, so chances are if someone bumps your car it’ll no longer be a hit and run. Four … you record cool trip footage that you wouldn’t be able to record otherwise (unless you’d hold a camera in your hands while you’re driving, but we’re sure you wouldn’t do such crazy things, wouldn’t you?) … And so on …

Now let’s take a closer look at the Papago GS260 windshield dashboard camera. I used this camera for a couple of weeks and here are my thoughts about it:

The camera comes with an impressive set of features:

  • Full HD (1080p) and HD (720p) recording capabilities with zoom in/out while recording
  • Wide angle visibility (it literally covers the entire windshield – check the user videos below)
  • G-Sensor that “feels” the bumps and shocks
  • Auto save feature in case of accidents
  • Motion detection (useful for recording parking accidents) – if the camera detects any movement around the car will automatically start taking snapshots.
  • Multilevel EV adjustment to improve recording quality if needed
  • One touch snapshots (even while recording video)
  • GPS ready – hook up an external GPS unit and take advantage of advanced features such as speed recording, navigation coordinates and so on
  • Large front buttons for easy menu navigation and recording controls
  • MicroSD card for media storage
  • Mini USB for PC and Mac connectivityPapago GS260-US - How To Mount The 12V Car Charger Around The Dashboard
  • Audio-Video out in case you need to output the signal to a TV
  • Recorded movies and in .mov format (can be played with most PC and MAC video players)

ALSO CHECK the Papago GS330, another cool Papago dashcam we featured a while back.

The dashcam is dissimulated in a windshield mirror that clips over your existing interior car mirror. The attachment system is very simple and is powered by two mobile hooks secured by an internal coil to keep the cam safe. Simply pull the two levers, attach the unit to the mirror and you’re ready to go.

The mirror unit is auto-dimming and, being a bit darker then classic car mirrors, takes a couple of kilometers to perfectly get used to it, but, once you get used to it, it helps night driving by automatically filtering the strong back lighting from cars in your back. The right side of the mirror hosts a 2.7in LCD which displays the video being recorded and some recording related information such as video length, current time, recording status and so on … The LCD can be turned off and the entire mirror real estate can be used to monitor back-coming traffic.

The Papago GoSafe 260 is powered by your car’s 12V cigarette lighter plug (a charging unit and cable are included in the package) as well as by an internal battery which also allows recording while the engine is turned off (remember I told you about the motion detection feature and automatic recording even when sitting in parking with the engine turned off?). The cable is long enough to be hidden around the dashboard of your car, and, as it sports an on-wire adapter, can be hooked up straight to your car’s electrical system.

Check the videos in the article for a hands-on review as well as the three real-life dash recordings (day and night) to have a glimpse at the recording quality. Note that the actual recording is better than these samples. Some quality was lost during video editing and Youtube upload.

Cool Moto X Interactive Magazine Print Ad That Is Actually ... Interactive!!!
Print ads are somehow boring to create … and even to read. While advertising in magazines and newspapers still brings new business and customers to companies, technical ads possibilities are very limited. Advertisers are blocked using images. No video, no sound, no GIF’s, no moving parts, just simple plain imaging, which limits the impact of ads and makes the advertising agency work harder to be creative and acquire reader’s attention.

Well … this is what I thought until now! Other than the classic “scratch-here-to-smell-this-perfume” there was literally no interactivity in offline magazine ads. But things start to change and advanced technology gets into offline advertising as well. Should we call it Offline Advertising 2.0?

Check out this cool Moto X print ad made by the advertising agency Digitas which allows readers to change the colors of the smartphone by touching various tone choices bellow the image. The ad appeared in 150,000 copies of the Wired January 2014 issue and made use of a slim transparent plexiglass slab, some LED lights, four small embedded batteries and some buttons disguised as color choices.

Let’s hear your thoughts about it in the comments. Also, what’s your take on the future of offline advertising? Will the magazine ads look the same as today in 10 years?

GOW Smart Fabric Workout Shirt With Integrated Sensors
Improve your workouts with the GOW Smart Fabric Shirt With Integrated Sensors.
This fancy smart-shirt features a HRM (heart rate monitor), sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and free GOW iPhone and Android apps! How’s that sounding for a running shirt?

All you have to do is select between four training modes: running, biking, hiking, or working out at the gym, and let the shirt do its job! The HRM will transfer workout data to the smartphone app, which, based on the received information, will calculate burned calories, traveled distance, best times, ran tracks and even compete against your friends!
The workout outfit is available for men (as a t-shirt) and for women (as a bra), is made of seamless fabric, ensures maximum comfort, moisture release and avoids chafing (technical yarn with Bosy thermoregulation), can be hand washed or machine washed, and the HRM unit can be cleaned, if necessary, with mild soap and clean water.

ALSO CHECK the Superman Alter Ego Compression Shirt an the Superhero Muscle Shirt we featured earlier from Under Armour.

The best part about it is that you get an all-in-one-training-cool-2.0-t-shirt and you no longer have to worry about gearing up a ton of gadgets before going out running. Considering all gadgets are included in the shirt, you will probably have to dismiss them once the t-shirt wears out, but, given it’s reasonable pricing – $79.99 US as we speak (hey … that’s not a lot more than the price of a good, brand working shirt) , it’s still worth the shot!

Midland XTC-280 Wearable Action Camera - A Decent Alternative For GoPro Recorders
While the premium quality, the strong build and the extra set of features make the GoPro action cameras the favorite choice for all extreme sports lovers (and many more), we have to admit that lower end models pack just enough power for casual use and for most regular people out-there! You know what I mean, Mr Regular Guy going on a motorcycle vacation with a couple of friends, Mr Family Guy going to the beach with the kids, Mr Student going on a camping trip or the neighbor’s 10 years old kid recording his biking adventure to impress grandma and grandpa …

Let’s take a closer look to the Midland XTC-280. This action camera is small and light enough to be worn without feeling it and packs a lot of power. It records Full HD (1080p) and HD (720p), it sports a large ON/OFF recording button so it can be easily used by someone wearing motorcycle or ski gloves, wide angle lens, microphone, 5.2MP, image stabilization to make sure you get crisp and stable recording and comes with a submersible case (down to 200 feet or 60 meters) and an universal mount which allows users to use it attached to helmets, motorcycles, snowboards and basically anywhere you can stick an adhesive pad.

We used the Midland XTC-280VP for about a week and and the recordings as well as the camera usability and packed features were OK. The quality could have been better at some points, but hey, don’t forget this is a $90 action camera, not a $400 GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition! Check the attached video to see it for yourself.

Leica X Vario Closeup Side Picture
With its 16.2 MP, APS-C-sized sensor, fixed 18-46mm f/3.5-6.4 lens and a shutter speed ranging between 30-1/2000sec the Leica X Vario is designed for enthusiast photographers in love with the German brand, but don’t necessarily want to spend a ton of money for a pricey M-System.

ALSO CHECK the Sigma DP2 Quatro Camera and the Hasselblad HV Full-Frame DSLR we featured earlier.

The Leica X Vario is slotted below the M model and above the X2, packs a Leica Vario-Elmar 18-46mm lens (28-70mm equivalent), 3-5 fps continuous shooting, 100-12,500 ISO and is … simply cool! Leica cool!!! Given the camera is entirely made in Germany by Leica (and by this I mean it’s not a repackaged Panasonic camera but a real Leica model) and the next step up on the Leica’s modeling chart is the M9 which costs about $7,000 for a camera with similar lens, the $2,099 priced X Vario is a good choice for anyone who wants a lower budget Leica camera.
